Catalog Description: Every semester. This beginning-level course gives students the advantage of an immersion method by presenting native speakers in real-life settings via a video/audio program, French in Action. Students learn "real-life" French, and class emphasis is on communicative activities.

Content:  This beginning-level course uses an immersion method to teach French.  The basis of the curriculum is the video/audio program, French in Action.  Classes are conducted in French with emphasis on the development of students’ skills to use French for communication.  Course work is supplemented by the online software program, Oh là là … quelle aventure!  Discovering Basic French.  French 101 meets FOUR TIMES a week to maximize the development of communicative proficiency in French.

Assessment: 40% of the final grade is based on weekly quizzes; 20% of the final grade is based on compositions; 20% of the final grade is based on two oral examinations; 10% of the final grade is based on activities in the French in Action workbook and in Oh là là . . . quelle aventure! Discovering Basic French; and 10% of the final grade is based on participation in class.
