Catalog Description: An introduction to interdisciplinary analysis through topics that are best understood through multiple methodologies and forms of evidence. The ILA and IDS program support interdisciplinary inquiry across Emory College; this course will frequently be cross-listed with other departments.
Semester Details: Content: Latin American Urban History takes a look at the history of the continent from a multidisciplinary approach. This allows us to look at the city as something more than a population center. The course studies the urban as the locus for the creation of popular culture, class and race relations and transformation, literature and city planning. The urban is contrasted and tied to the rural outdoors, the stereotypical image of Latin America, and allows us to see the region in a new light.
