Semester Details:

What were the behavioral expectations for women in the ancient civilizations of Egypt, Greece, Etruria, and Rome? Who decided what roles women could and could not play within the family, within the community, and within larger society? What was the dividing line between virtue and villainy and according to whom? In this course we will survey the construction of feminine identity in various roles as portrayed in the literary and visual record from antiquity and down through the ages.

NOTE: You must fill out an application to be considered for permission to enroll in this class. Applications are due by 3/28/2011. Students enrolling before this should still apply for the class as they can enroll, if accepted, during Add/Drop/Swap.
