This summer, see some good movies you’d have missed at the mall or via your routine DVD channels. Become acquainted with a new branch of the Sociology of Culture.
Learn how to be more analytical about films. Learn to understand the social sources of film making and meaning, and how to identify sociologically interpretable and explainable patterns in films.
Sociology of Film will introduce students to social aspects causes and consequences of the production, distribution, content, form and reception of film. The course will proceed as a combination of lecture course and seminar, enlivened by frequent film clips and nearly weekly films (required unless otherwise indicated).
