DESCRPITION: This course explores the topics of gender and sexualities in the Hispanic Caribbean cultures through literature, films, visual, and musical texts.  The representations of men and women in Cuban, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rican cultural expressions will be discussed from diverse theoretical and interdisciplinary perspectives.

TEXTS: Montero, Mayra. Púrpura profundo. 2000. (Tusquets Editores) Valdez, Pedro Antonio. Bachata del ángel caído. (Isla Negra Editores) Selection of texts and readings available at Reserves Direct and Learnlink conference.

PARTICULARS: The final grade is based on two papers (5-7pp.), weekly response sheets, assignments, attendance and class participation.
