Catalog Description: Open only to senior and junior majors and others by permission of instructor. Selected topics in political science.

Semester Details:

This course will examine the place of law in the history of political philosophy, including classical, medieval and early modern political thought.  We will discuss the relation between divine law and human law, the idea of natural law, the relation between the philosopher and the legal order, the political need for law, as well as difficulties with the idea of law as such.  We will read works by Plato, Aristotle, Maimonides, Al-Farabi, Aquinas, and Hobbes.
