Catalog Description: Selected topics and problems in political science. Content will vary in successive offerings of this course. May be repeated for credit when topic varies.

Semester Details: This course introduces students to the causes and consequences of political violence.  We focus on critical engagement with recent theoretical and empirical social science scholarship on violence. Through the examination of a number of recent and historical episodes of political violence, we will assess the validity of these explanations for violence.  In addition to understanding the causes of violence, we will examine its consequences, and strategies for resolving and preventing conflict.  This is a writing intensive course.
