Catalog Description: History, ideas and personalities of American radicalism, including utopianism, socialism, the Industrial Workers of the World, communism, and the New Left. American reactions to radicalism, including McCarthyism.

Semester Details:

This course deals with various aspects of the radical tradition in America and reactions to it. Among the topics a groups to be covered are American socialism, the Communist Party, the Industrial Workers of the World, the New Left, McCarthyism and anti-communism, the Hiss-Chambers case, etc. In addition to lectures and readings, there will be several films.
