This introductory course covers the arts of the indigenous cultures of ancient lower Central America (Costa Rica and Panama) and Andean South America (Peru/Bolivia/Chile) before A.D. 1550. Media include architecture, textiles, featherwork, ceramics, stone sculpture, and metalwork. Andean cultures include: Chavín, Paracas, Nasca, Moche, Wari-Tiwanaku, Chimú, Chancay, and Inka. Original works of art in the Michael C. Carlos Museum will be featured.
