Content: This course explores the ideological and structural foundations of race and racism in modern American political culture. We will pay particular attention to the roles that "custom" and "law" played in the perpetuation of segregation and inequality in modern American political culture with specific reference to the urban and suburban landscapes that shape much of our historical imagination.
