Catalog Description: Selected topics in history for advanced students. May be repeated for credit when topic varies.

Semester Details:  

Content:  Introduction to the figures, movements and ideas that contributed to the religious upheaval in Europe, 1350-1650, and led to the division of western Christendom into competing Protestant and Roman Catholic camps. The class will examine a wide variety of figures from Martin Luther and John Calvin to Ignatius Loyola and Teresa of Avila.

Grading: Letter grades.  A midterm quiz and a final exam.  A research paper may be substituted for the final in consultation with the instructor.
