Catalog Description: Variable topics that are offered as incipient or irregular courses. Past course topics have included: Finding Place: Technology, Stories, and the Environment; Introduction to Botany; Water: In Science, Philosophy, and Literature; Environment, Health, and Development; Conservation and Development; Earth Materials: Minerology and Petrology; Booms and Busts in Resources of Georgia; Paleoecology; and Wetland Ecology.

Semester Details:

This course examines the urban environment and explores issues in urban planning and policy, sustainability, and environmental management while employing the use of GIS methodology. Course objectives include exploring classic theories in urban geography while engaging students in: exploring demographics/census data using GIS (i.e. environmental justice, community building); urban planning applications of GIS (i.e. green building, livable centers, mixed-use development, transportation); analyzing spatial patterns in urban areas with GIS (i.e. land use change, resource management). May be used to fulfill the Elective requirement for ENVS majors and minors.
