Catalog Description: Every semester. Intensive writing course that trains students in expository writing through a number of variable topics. Satisfies first-year English writing requirement.
Semester Details: Content: We will consider the writing and thinking in the essays, letters, and speeches of a number of famous individuals, including Ulysses S. Grant, Abraham Lincoln, Henry David Thoreau, Emily Dickinson, James Weldon Johnson, Charles Darwin, Martin Luther King, Stephen Jay Gould, William Faulkner, Richard Wright, Eudora Welty, and Flannery O'Connor. We will simultaneously work on writing and critical thinking skills and with a focus on organization, grammar, and style.
