Catalog Description: (Same as FILM 394S, ASIA 375S, and CPLT 389S.) The course explores the history and development of Chinese cinema. It discusses "film in China" and "China in film" by focusing on the function of cinema and continual reconfigurations of time, space, gender, and history in Chinese films under different historical conditions since the early twentieth century.
