Semester Details: This course provides an overview of French Impressionism, with occasional forays into the international manifestations of the movement. It considers the achievements of the principal Impressionist artists along with the aspects of modern life that informed the development of the movement and the ways that other influences-the renovated city of Paris, the discovery of Japanese prints, the flowering of photography-contributed to the style and subject matter of "the new painting."
