Catalog Description: Topics could include Giotto, Michaelangelo, and sixteenth-century mannerism. May be repeated for credit when topic changes, up to a maximum of sixteen hours.

Semester Details: This course will explore the visual arts in the context of urban development in central Italy, in the period between approximately 1260 and 1400.  Focusing on the art and architecture of cities like San Gimignano, Assisi, Perugia, Florence, Padua, and Siena, we will consider how the interests of governments, citizens, and artisans of various sorts interacted in the commissioning and production of art in this vibrant period of Italian history.
