Content: This course serves as an introduction to the major novelists of African American literature of the 20th century. These novelists include James Weldon Johnson, Jean Toomer, Zora Neal Hurston, Richard Wright, Ralph Ellison, James Baldwin, Paule Marshall, Alice Walker, Charles Johnson and Toni Morrison. The requirements for this course include three essays and class presentations. A mid-term and final examinations are not required.
