Program Review

Overview | Purposes | Components of the Review Process | Preparing the Self-Study Document

Overview

Emory College and the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences have reinstated a process to review academic departments and programs. Evaluation is key to the academic mission of the Arts and Sciences in part because it enables faculty and administration to measure whether or not they have attained a level of excellence commensurate with their own goals and aspirations, as well as those of the University. More importantly, systematic review will provide both the departments and the administration with the information we need to plan for the future of the Arts and Sciences.

Briefly, the review will consist of three important elements:

  1. a self study that will include an evaluation of the department’s current situation, but will focus on a strategic plan outlining the department’s goals and aspirations for the next 7–10 years;
  2. an external review conducted by experts in your field; and
  3. yearly follow-up to evaluate progress toward departmental goals.

The enclosed procedures explain the review process and the materials that the department will include in its self study.

Program Review is the joint responsibility of Deans Cristine Levenduski and Kim Loudermilk. Lori Cavagnaro is the Coordinator of Program Review.
