Special Degrees: Dual-Degree Program

Special Programs | Pre-Engineering Curriculum | Program Guidelines | FAQ
ECE MS Program Requirements | MSME Program Requirements | Application Process

Pre-Engineering Curriculum

The 3-2 program leads to two undergraduate degrees: a bachelor's degree of arts and sciences from Emory in the major field of choice and a bachelor of science in engineering in any of the engineering disciplines.  In order to apply for the dual-degree, you will need to satisfy the 3-2 program requirements before applying.  In order to receive the bachelor's degree from Emory, you will need to satisfy Emory college graduation requirements.

3-2 Program Requirements

In order to apply to the dual-degree program, students are required to take the following courses. REQUIRED courses must be taken the semester prior to enrollment. For example, if you are taking calculus II (a required course) in the summer semester, you will not be able to enroll in the fall semester at Georgia Tech--you would need to request that your application date be changed to the following spring semester. For more information see: Georgia Tech's information on transfer equivalent courses.

  • Five courses in Mathematics:  111, 112, 211, 212, 221.
  • Two courses in Physics: 151, 152.
  • One course in Chemistry:  141.
  • One course in History: History 231 or History 232
  • Two courses in English: English 101, 181, or Lit 110.
  • Some engineering disciplines require additional courses.  Please consult the table below.

Students are encouraged to develop skills in computer science either through formal course work or informally.

Major Requirements

Emory college students need to choose a major and satisfy the requirements of this major in order to graduate with a bachelor's degree from Emory.  The major will involve taking six to twelve additional courses in one’s major department that are chosen in consultation with the departmental advisor. In some cases, courses offered by the corresponding department at Georgia Tech may be accepted by Emory College for credit toward the major.  Students should consult with an Emory College major advisor to determine which courses will be accepted, as well as consult with a Georgia Tech advisor to be certain that one’s engineering curriculum can include these courses as electives.

Dual degree students are not required to major in a science, though Physics, Math and CS have been the most popular majors of students applying for the program.
