Scholarly Inquiry and Research at Emory (SIRE)

Overview | Independent Research Grants | Research Partner Program | Summer Programs | Research Symposiums | Graduate Fellows | Conference Presentations | Resources

Summer Programs

SIRE provides grants for summer research. On-campus summer participants may reside in campus housing at no charge and receive an expense stipend while performing full-time research at Emory. Off-campus summer grants provide research support for independent projects related to students' academic work. SIRE's International Research Experience for Science Students (to begin Summer 2006) will provide summer grants for students working in a science laboratory in another country.

For students in the natural sciences, computer science and mathematics, summer funding for SIRE is disbursed through the The Summer Undergraduate Research Program at Emory (SURE).  SURE allows an undergraduate student to conduct supervised research with a faculty mentor. Students receive training in the research methods applicable to their research plan, analyze their data and create written and oral presentations of their results. At the end of the summer, each participant takes part in a formal research symposium.

On-Campus Research

To encourage undergraduate research projects at Emory, SIRE provides independent research grants for summer research the on-campus Summer Research Partner Program for social science and humanities students, and International Research Experiences for Science Students (IRES). Please see the grant application page for the summer research grants.  Information on the Summer Research Partner Program and IRES are provided below.

Students may apply for a summer grant to do research off campus. Information on the SIRE Grants page is applicable although off-campus summer students generally fulfill their SIRE committments in the fall after their grant period.
