Seminar for Assistant Professors of Emory College:
Balancing Professional Responsibilities and Personal Life

Details:
Date: Wed. April 4, 2007
Time: 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm
Location: Candler Library 120

Description of the seminar:

Achieving tenure can be one of the most rewarding experiences for faculty members during their professional careers. However, the demands of the tenure process for many faculty members can be quite challenging. In fact, the realities of balancing teaching, research, service and one’s personal/family life can be taxing, and at times overwhelming. In an effort to respond to these multiple demands, it is beneficial to address time management needs, examine individual stress reactions, develop coping strategies, design a tenure action plan, and implement a work-life balance process. In this two hour workshop, participants will identify their primary responses to identified stressors, learn coping strategies for the achievement of work-life balance, and establish the basic components of a tenure action plan. The workshop will be both didactic and interactive, which will afford participants to learn from each other’s experiences.
